The Perfect Romantic Weekend Getaway in West Virginia

Looking for a romantic weekend getaway in West Virginia? Or just want to go off the grid and revitalize your mind in the woods?

If so, you have to check out this forest glamping experience in Scarbro, West Virginia! My husband, David, and I booked this experience to finish out our time in Maryland and it was such a memorable trip.

Scarbro is located in Fayette County, only a short, 15-minute drive to New River Gorge National Park. Here, you can enjoy outdoor adventures such as whitewater rafting, zip-lining, hiking, and more!

Where We Stayed

Our Airbnb was located in Scarbro, West Virginia. Only 10 minutes from downtown Fayetteville, you’ll be in your own little world on the host’s 16-acre property.

You’ll be staying in a bell tent, equipped with many of the comforts of home, from cozy bedding, sheets, and towels to a coffee cart with a camp stove and all your every day kitchen needs. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the host’s dog, Meesha, who is very friendly!

You have access to shared amenities including picnic tables with a gas grill and basic cooking supplies. There are also several nature trails and a creek on the host’s 16-acre property to explore.  In addition, you’ll find eco-friendly toiletries in the shower house and restrooms where you’ll have access to an indoor shower, an outdoor shower, two toilets, two sinks, and a dishwashing station.

There is one other tent about 100 yards away but we still felt we had the privacy we wanted. The owners do live on the property as well. They are in an RV next to the shower/restroom area, but we didn’t see them much!

Where to Eat

Freefolk Brewery

Looking for breweries in West Virginia with quirky vibes and amazing brews? Check out Freefolk Brewery! Located in Fayetteville, WV, this brewery is just what you need after a long day of hiking and adventuring in the mountains. Freefolk Brewery is unique in that it has a Greek-inspired food menu. David and I got a gyro and a couple of their craft beers, which were incredible! I think I legit had the best sour I’ve ever had. And I don’t say that lightly. On top of that, the staff was super friendly. Plenty of outdoor seating and games to keep you busy for hours! Check them out if you’re in the area.

Wood Iron Eatery

Wood Iron Eatery is also located in Fayetteville, WV. Before hitting the trails, we stopped here for a yummy breakfast and local coffee. They’re open daily from 8:30am – 2:30pm and have a good variety of breakfast options. I opted for The Engineer – three eggs, bacon, and avocado – with a side of toast and jam – delicious! And iced coffee on the side because DUH.

The primary reason for our visit was New River Gorge National Park!

Honestly, I didn’t know what the heck to expect but West Virginia is SERIOUSLY underrated!! And New River Gorge is absolutely breathtaking. I mean, look at these views?!! This photo was taken from an overlook on Long Point via Fayetteville Trail.

The trail is rated as moderate on All Trails, and it wasn’t bad at all. It’s 6.3 miles out and back and took us about 2.5 hours to complete (with stops). It’s also dog-friendly!

Final thoughts

West Virginia is seriously underrated and if you’re an outdoorsy guy or gal and enjoy adventure, this is the place for you!
