Sticking to a healthy diet can be challenging when you’re constantly on the go. It can be especially tricky to ensure you’re meeting your daily protein intake.
It’s no secret that protein is an essential nutrient that plays a huge role in building and repairing tissues in our bodies. But did you know it’s also a great food for weight loss?
Protein is one of three macronutrients that your body gets energy from (the other two being carbs and fats). One awesome fact about protein is that it digests slower in your body, making it a great tool to help keep you fuller and satisfied for longer. Furthermore, your body actually requires more energy to break down protein versus carbs and fats, meaning you burn slightly more calories to digest it. Fun fact, huh?!
And that’s great news for your weight loss journey, right? Because who the hell wants to be hungry when they’re dieting? Not me, that’s for sure.
I’ve put together 10 of my favorite high-protein snack options that you can easily take with you on the road or just have them in your fridge at home to use for a quick and easy snack.
Greek yogurt
Greek yogurt is probably one of my favorite high-protein snacks! It’s really versatile in that you can eat it plain, add it to a smoothie, or incorporate some fun toppings like nuts, chocolate chips, granola, or fruit! Look for options that have the lowest sugar possible. Some yogurts will have a ton of added sugar. Common brands like Chobani and Oikos have lower sugar options. Just check the label!
*My rule of thumb is to aim for 10 grams or less of added sugars.
Tuna Lunch Kits and Packets
Tuna packs are super easy because they don’t need to be refrigerated. These are a great option to bring for lunch or pack in your bag for traveling. Check out my favorite packs on Amazon.
String Cheese
Where are my cheese girlies at?! String cheese is a great little snack to keep on hand, I also love the Baby Bel or Laughing Cow wedges. Pair them with some fruit or crackers for the perfect high-protein munchie!
Chomps Jerky
I’m not the biggest fan of jerky but when I found these jerky sticks, my mind completely changed! Now, of course, any jerky will do but I get the Chomps jerky from Walmart. They have simple ingredients and no added sugars! One thing you want to be careful of with jerky is the added sugar (weird, right?).
Check out my favorites on Amazon.
Dried Chickpeas or Edamame
So dried chickpeas and edamame are more of an asterisk on this list. They do have protein in them but, they are also a little higher in carbs (relative to the other snacks on this list). These are a great option if you want a vegetarian or vegan alternative, for example, or if you don’t like much dairy or meat.
My favorite brand is Bienna. Check them out here on Amazon.
Whey or Vegan Protein Powder Packets
Protein powder will forever be on my favorites list because it’s just. so. easy. I don’t usually buy the packets of protein but I will put a scoop into a ziplock bag and literally carry it around in my bag for emergencies LOL. When you need a protein bump for the day or a quick snack, there’s just no better option IMO.
Shameless plug: I work with a reputable supplement company called Legion Athletics. All of their supplements are third-party tested (meaning, the label is accurate and you’re actually getting what you pay for) and also taste amazing! If you’re looking for a good protein powder, give them a try!
My favorite flavors are Cinnamon Cereal, Dutch Chocolate, and Fruit Cereal.

Hard-Boiled Eggs
Please, for the love of God, don’t eat these on a plane or in a small space with other people. You’ll probably get dirty looks LOL Anyways, eggs are such a great protein source as well as a fat source. Fats are also one of those foods that help keep you fuller for longer so you’re getting the best bang for your buck. Most gas stations and airports sell these in packs so you don’t have to make them yourself if you’re traveling.
1 whole egg has about 7 grams of protein!
Protein Bars
Protein bars are a quick and easy way to get in extra protein and, although they aren’t necessary, they’re a staple in my routine. To make it worth your while, aim for a protein bar that has at least 15-20 grams of protein. Some of my favorites include Quest Bars, One Bars, Barebell, and Pure Protein.
Here are my favorites on Amazon.
P3 Portable Protein Packs (or similar)
P3 protein packs are an awesome snack that also gives you some variety. Oscar Meyer also makes packs with more food that have 16 grams of protein per pack. Packs include a variety of nuts, cheeses, and deli meat.
